Cold persimmon tree
dropped all its clothes; underneath,
a scarlet robin

Cold persimmon tree
dropped all its clothes; underneath,
a scarlet robin

Edged in golden light
watching the river valley
the hovering kite

A glimpse of yellow
Dark messengers in grey skies
Ancient cries foretell

Hobbling in the cold
I watch cockatoos chew through
knobbly old branches

A tiny ripple
remains where the dragonfly
kissed her reflection

New year's dawn
a warbler sings its heart out
undaunted

Cockatoos fly home
earlier than yesterday -
the smell of Spring rain

Alert and wide-eyed
Faster than a roadrunner
Legs ablur; worm lunch

Purple solstice sky -
my only companion is
a fluffed up magpie

the dappled path -
poking under melting frost
yellow robins
